Mourning Dove in Sycamore

While spending delicious hours exploring the riverbank… and sitting quietly until the rhythm of my being matched the river and I felt at one with the trees and ducks… I saw a mourning dove. Quiet in a sycamore that stood in bleached and shadowed contrast against the blue, blue sky. I wasn’t sure why she captured me until I drew her. Magic Hour

The hour when darkness settles is my favorite of the day. All the colors calm and simplify, while the sky riots in a progression of hues… changing attitude subtly every few moments… and watching is like hearing a grand orchestra play Beethoven. The first stars shimmer, and all the world seems so close and so possible. I used simple white line for the mystical additions because sometimes it seems you can see magic if your eyes were only strong enough to detect the translucency.
